The Kings Shilling Tankard

A solid pewter, 1-pint tankard which tells of the practice of recruiting (and, in many cases, tricking) men into military service by including coin of the realm into the proffered drink of unsuspecting candidates - if taken, the poor unfortunate would be deemed to have signed-on by drinking it. In the 18th century, a glass bottomed tankard was invented so that men could spot the trick before it was played! Gift boxed.
